i don't have a working title yet. this is my new game though. a little less than a week's worth of work so far. i've been fine tuning many things, and i have gotten more done since this, but i don't want to release anything else about the game. haha! just know: weapons will be added. :D

think twisted metal/rock n roll racing. if you know what i'm talking about, you kick ass. haha.

i know there is very little background artwork. this is a test.

controls will be changed eventually too so you can operate weapons with ASD and handbreak with F or something like that. i'm still thinking, so nothing's final!

yeahhhh. so i hadn't checked your gallery before commentin, i assumed you were some random person looking through my gallery. seeing as how you seem to already have a good grasp of actionscript, i could probably give you a more comprehensive explaination of the engine.

No I do not need comprehensive explanation. I now know more or less how you do it. Details do not mean much I think. I am thinking on playing with connected(spring) wheels after some time. I think I will try one interesting idea. Collisions also will be checked in the points I create on a wheel. Then there will be invisible layer where type of surface will be painted by a color(black - oil, white - wall). Then if I see that some point have hot for example a wall then I am starting to look for a wall in those coordinates. I am looking the wall object because I need to know some info on how to resolve collisions. Than systems itself will bi implemented so that I will be able to rewind time so if will start to rewind time using binary-search algorithm variation till some small mistake looking for a moment when wall was struck. I have doubts on some moments here but those are my plains for recent future. Right now I am working on two other things so those wheel simulations will need to wait. Eaahh. I really hate that because of studying I must spend time on such stupid things as international business instead of my experiments :(

that's a lot more complicated than what i have. if you want an extremely accurate method of collision detection (like between the wheels like you said) you might want to research raycasting. it's primarily used to script 3d games, but it's also used in getting accurate detection between given points and walls.

I think that what you are spekaing about is may method. Line is drawn between the palace where point was and where it is now. If this line intersects with some wall than time is rewinded till they don't. I seen really cool physical engine based on this.
Check this [link] Thats now what i will be doing but his engine is really cool. If you haven't seen check another his experements. I found his page half a year ago or something and amazed :)

kind of.
here's the mechanics in a nutshell:

the game always checks to make sure you can move in any of the four directions at once (north, south, east, west). the "shapeFlag" means that it's checking the artwork of the buildings to see if there's a building in a given spot.

we'll say you're heading east. the game takes your current position and adds your speed to that (since we're going eat, it adds your speed to your x-coordinate). if there's no building in the spot that you're heading to, you're free to go there. otherwise, you slow down or stop. it does this for both your x and y coordinates and checks all four directions.

Specifically, though, what controls the angle and direction? Although I know a little about ActionScript, I've often wondered how that works.
It could be used for aiming projectiles...

thanks. i really want to add skid marks, but when i was working on this, there was so much to be done and i had no idea how to go about scripting the tire marks. it may be done in the future. we shall see. :D

i used to get people's help, but there's a few problems with it. so far, i have yet to find a person willing to work as much as i do. plus, when i finish games, i submit them to my sponsor (crazymonkeygames.com) and he pays me. so if people were to help, i'd have to send money to them as well. it's really just too much hassle.

it's a lot further in design than what you see here now. i have checkpoint races completed and stuff. driver AI for computer opponents is VERY difficult though.

Considering this is just a test, and it's not finished, it's amazingly fun and slightly addictive.

It's like the first grand theft auto games, but looks much prettier. :-)
